Metu Settles for Bronze, Calls for Better Support for Imo Taekwondo
Chigozie Wisdom Metu of Imo State expressed mixed emotions after claiming a bronze medal in the Taekwondo event at the 2nd Niger Delta Games holding in Benin City, Edo State.
While the podium finish reflects his resilience and fighting spirit, the athlete admitted he had aimed higher.
“I am not happy with the bronze medal. I really wanted to get to the final,” Metu said candidly. His journey to the podium was anything but easy, as he faced tough opposition and endured physical challenges throughout the competition.
In one of his intense bouts, the Imo fighter sustained an injury but continued to push through, demonstrating courage and commitment to his state. “The fight is not easy and I even got injured while fighting,” he revealed.
Despite the setback, Metu remains optimistic about the future. He believes that with better preparation and improved training facilities, athletes from Imo can achieve greater success in future competitions.
He passionately appealed to the Imo State Government to provide modern Taekwondo equipment to support athletes’ development. “I would like Imo Government to get Taekwondo equipment for the athletes to work with. We can do better with more encouragement,” he added.
