The race for the 2025/26 NWFL Premiership title will be decided on the final day on Sunday after a dramatic Matchday 4 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.
Edo Queens, Bayelsa Queens and Nasarawa Amazons remain in contention for the crown, setting the stage for a tense and exciting conclusion to the Super Six.
Defending champions Bayelsa Queens kept their title hopes alive with a comfortable 2-0 victory over FC Robo Queens in a game delayed by one hour due to rain.
Kindness Ifeanyi needed just one minute to open the scoring and give Bayelsa the perfect start. The Flamingos’ attacker struck after 14 seconds to score arguably the quickest goal of the Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership history. The champions remained in control throughout and sealed victory in the 83rd minute when substitute Vera Samuel found the net moments after coming on.
The win moved the Prosperity Girls to seven points and ensured the championship race would go down to the final day but FC Robo Queens remain on three points and at the bottom of the table.
Nasarawa Amazons missed a golden opportunity to strengthen their title challenge after being held to a goalless draw by resilient, Abia Angels.
The Amazons, who won their opening two matches, have now gone two games without victory. Their best chance came late in the game when Adaobi Okah stepped up from the penalty spot after the referee spotted a handball in Abia Angels’ penalty area but failed to convert.
The draw leaves Nasarawa Amazons on seven points and needing both a victory in their final match and favourable results elsewhere.
Leaders Edo Queens edged hosts Rivers Angels 2-1 in a fiercely contested South-South derby to take control of the title race.
Precious Oscar opened the scoring in the 39th minute with her third goal of the Super Six to hand Edo Queens the lead.
Rivers Angels responded in the 72nd minute through substitute Abasiofon Uwah, whose goal drew her level with Edo Queens’ Atume Doosuur on 13 goals in the race for the league’s top scorer award.
But Edo Queens had the final say. Chioma Moses struck in the 77th minute to restore her side’s advantage, scoring her seventh goal of the Super Six and 11th of the season to secure a priceless victory.
The win took Edo Queens to nine points with a superior goal difference of +7, putting them firmly in control ahead of the final round.
