Bayelsa Queens, Nasarawa Amazons Fall as NWFL Matchday 8 Reshapes Title Race
Matchday 8 of the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership delivered one of the most dramatic rounds of the 2026 season, as the last unbeaten sides — Bayelsa Queens and Nasarawa Amazons — both fell, ensuring no team can now boast of an unblemished record.
Across nine centres, the title race tightened while the relegation fight intensified, with stunning results in Owerri and Akure headline acts of an action-packed week.
At the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Heartland Queens produced a spirited comeback to defeat league leaders Bayelsa Queens 3-1.
Olabiyi Alaba put Bayelsa Queens ahead in the 2nd minute (0-1).
Umejiaku Oluebube equalised in the 27th minute (1-1).
An own goal by Agatha Thompson in the 60th minute turned the game (2-1).
Oluebube struck again in the 70th minute to seal it (3-1).
The Owerri Landladies responded emphatically after their heavy defeat in Port Harcourt, while Bayelsa Queens, despite the loss, remain top on +12 goal difference with 18 points.
The “Jewel of Rivers,” Rivers Angels, secured a crucial 2-1 away win over Ekiti Queens in Abeokuta’s MKO Abiola Stadium.
Patience Otubo opened scoring in the 2nd minute for the travelling Rivers Angels before Taiwo Ajibade doubled the lead in the 65th minute.
Though Miracle Ohaeri pulled one back in the 69th minute it later turned out to be consolation goal.
Rivers Angels stay second on 18 points, level with Bayelsa Queens and Edo Queens.
In Uyo, Edo Queens strengthened the three-way title race.
Chioma Moses gave Edo Queens the lead in the 2nd minute.
Juliet John equalised in the 55th minute for the home side before Mary Mamudu struck late in the 86th minute to win it for the Edo side.
In Bwari, Adamawa Queens recorded their first away win of the season, defeating Naija Ratels 2-0.
Ifeoma Damian scored in the 40th and 47th minutes.
Adamawa Queens climb to fifth with 10 points, while Naija Ratels remain eighth with two points.
Previously unbeaten Nasarawa Amazons suffered their first loss against Sunshine Queens.
Victory Lucky scored in the 38th minute.
The Amazons drop to third with 15 points, while Sunshine Queens rise to fifth with 10 points.
Abia Angels consolidate fourth spot with 14 points following their 2-0 win over Nasarawa Amazons in Aba through the goals of Funmi Adefuye and Onyedikachi.
A first win of the season for Ahudiyannem Queens who dazed Confluence Queens 5-1 to achieve that purpose. Peace Aliko opened the floodgate of goals in the 29th minute before other follow suit.
Both sides now have five points, but Ahudiyannem move off bottom spot.
Remo Stars Ladies were ruthless in Ikenne beating Delta Queens 4-0. .
Daniella Fagbenro (16’, 90+5’)
Kehinde Ajayi (74’), and Deborah Kehinde (90+5’) were on the score sheets.
They rise to second in Group B with 15 points.
FC Robo Queens remain top of Group B amid controversy after their fixture with Osun Babes failed to hold due to a jersey colour clash. The Oshogbo side may forfeit the fixture pending league decision.
