Ex-Imo Deputy Governor Madumere Mourns Henry Nwosu, Ramson Madu, Supports Bereaved Families
Former Deputy Governor of Imo State and PDP senatorial candidate for Imo East, Prince Eze Madumere (MFR), on Monday paid separate condolence visits to the families of late Nigerian football icon Henry Onyemanze Nwosu (MON) and veteran coach Ramson Madu, where he also offered financial support ahead of their burial ceremonies.
Madumere visited the bereaved families at Umukwoma in Umuorie Naze and World Bank Road in Owerri, where he was warmly received by community leaders, including the Chief Priest of Naze Autonomous Community, Hamilton Uzoma, and David Iheanacho, who commended his gesture of solidarity during the difficult period.
Speaking during the visits, Madumere described the late Henry Nwosu as a national sporting hero whose contributions to Nigerian football transcended generations and united Nigerians through sports.
“Immediately I heard about the passing of our brother and sports legend, Henry Nwosu, I felt compelled to come because of the relationship we shared,” Madumere said. “His death is not just a loss to the family, but to the entire country. Henry represented unity, excellence and patriotism in Nigerian sports.”
The former deputy governor also urged the Federal Government to establish a sustainable welfare structure for retired athletes, stressing the need for insurance and medical support schemes for former sportsmen and women who served the nation.
“There should be an institutionalised support system for our retired athletes so they can enjoy proper healthcare and welfare after dedicating their lives to national service through sports,” he added.
On the passing of Coach Ramson Madu, Madumere said his visit was inspired by friendship, shared passion for football and the need to encourage the grieving family.
“When I heard about the death of Coach Ramson Madu, I knew it was important to personally come with my entourage to identify with the family and show them love in this moment of grief,” he stated.
He disclosed that he met with the widow, Chioma Madu, and their four children, encouraging them to remain united and steadfast despite the painful loss.
Madumere also donated cash support to both families to assist with burial arrangements ahead of the final rites scheduled for June 6 and June 24, 2026, respectively.
The families expressed appreciation for the visit and financial assistance, describing Madumere’s gesture as timely and comforting.
Henry Nwosu, born on June 14, 1963, passed away on March 14, 2026. He was a former Nigerian international, youth team coach and one of the country’s most celebrated footballers.
Coach Ramson Madu, who died in April, was a former Iwuanyanwu Nationale player and ex-Heartland FC coach, widely respected for his contributions to grassroots football development in Imo State and beyond.
