St Patrick, Lightening Stars Battle for Dan Anyiam U15 Memorial Football Tournament Crown
The stage is set for the final of the Dan Anyiam U15 Memorial Football Tournament, with St Patrick FC and Lightening Stars FA battling for the title on Saturday in Owerri.
The final will take place at the Old Stadium, Tetlow Road, Owerri, with kick-off fixed for 3pm, while the red carpet activities will begin at 2pm.
St Patrick secured their place in the final following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Rising Stars in the semi-final. Their ability to protect the narrow advantage underlined the discipline that has taken them to the title match.
Lightening Stars had to travel a more difficult route. They were held to a 2-2 draw by Pakat FC in an entertaining semi-final before keeping their composure in the ensuing penalty shootout to book their place in Saturday’s final.
The championship match brings together two sides that showed different qualities in the last four, with St Patrick relying on defensive organisation while Lightening Stars demonstrated resilience to survive a tense shootout.
Beyond the battle for the trophy, the tournament continues to provide a platform for young footballers to display their talent while promoting the values of respect, fair play and team spirit.
The competition is sponsored by a former football star, renowned businessman and philanthropist, Mr Anderson “WorldBest” Anyiam, CEO of WorldBest Pharmaceuticals, the tournament was conceived to immortalise the name and legacy of his late uncle, Dan Anyiam, Nigeria’s first National Football Team captain and the foremost Coach of the then Spartans FC of Owerri tht later metamorphosed to Iwuanyanwu National FC and now Heartland FC.
