Ogbonda: Bayelsa Queens Believe Trophy Can Return To Yenagoa
Bayelsa Queens head coach Whyte Ogbonda remains confident his side can retain the NWFL Premiership title after a vital 2-0 victory over FC Robo Queens on Friday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Kindness Ifeanyi opened the scoring after just one minute before Vera Samuel sealed the win in the 83rd minute.
The result moved Bayelsa Queens to second place with seven points and set up a title-deciding clash against leaders Edo Queens.
“It is my conviction that Bayelsa Queens will return the cup to Yenagoa,” Ogbonda declared.
The coach praised his players for responding positively after a difficult start to the tournament.
“A win against FC Robo Queens would go a long way to ensure we still have a chance in the last game because our target is to qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League again. The girls came very determined to win, which we got.”
Ogbonda also commended FC Robo Queens despite the victory.
“FC Robo Queens are no pushovers even though we won because most of their players are playing outside the shores of Nigeria. I know how to handle teams like FC Robo that play with young players.”
